SOLD OUT: Killua Castle Farm Walk: Rewilding and Regenerative Farming

Killua is a historic castle located in the most romantic demesne in Ireland with links to Sir Walter Raleigh and Lawrence of Arabia. The castle, which long lay in ruins, has been fully restored and is now dedicated to expressing and sharing the Sangines Krause family’s passions of history, art, environmental conservation, regenerative farming and gastronomy.

The Killua demesne consisted of heavily degraded parkland as a result of many years of intensive farming and active deforestation. Since acquiring the land, one of the most important goals of the Montepascal Foundation has been the regeneration of the land. This has been done through a combination of regenerative farming and the creation of protected areas for environmental purposes.

With the assistance of Forest Environmental Research and Services, under the supervision of ecologist Dr. Patrick Moran and his team, Killua Castle have dedicated 100 acres to a rewilding project that has a goal of re-establishing the parkland ecosystem. The rewilding project is also home to a small number of native animals. These herbivores are critical to the development of a balanced ecosystem and have attracted a very wide variety of flora an fauna promoting biodiversity.

Join us for the first of our Farm Walks Series at Killua Castle to learn more about their regenerative farming practices and rewilding project. This event is open to all, but will be of particular interest of those who would like to learn more about these initiatives at Killua Castle Farm.
