Cultivating Connections: Swainstown Farm Walk
Join us on Sunday 22nd June from 11am to 1pm for a guided tour and tasting at Swainstown Farm, part of our Cultivating Connections: Farm Walk Series.
Farming has been part of Swainstown for over 12 generations. For much of the last century, the focus was on monoculture grain production — but in recent years, Arthur and Larissa Preston have begun a careful transformation, shifting toward regenerative agriculture and rewilding practices that put soil health, biodiversity, and ecosystem restoration at the centre of everything they do.
During this walk, you’ll explore:
Their no-dig market garden, where the soil is left undisturbed to protect its structure, preserve carbon, and promote nutrient-dense food
Mob grazing methods that mimic natural herd movement, allowing pastures to recover, boosting biodiversity, and increasing carbon sequestration
Their developing silvopasture system, where over 2,000 native trees (and plans for 50,000 more) are being integrated with grazing livestock to restore natural ecosystems and enhance soil carbon storage
The tour will conclude with a Boyne Valley Tasting Plate, showcasing seasonal flavours and produce from Swainstown and nearby food producers.
Whether you’re a grower, food producer, chef, or simply interested in where our food comes from, this event offers a meaningful opportunity to see how food production can heal landscapes and nourish communities.
