Art Plate
Join hosts Santina Kennedy and Blanca Valencia for Art Plate, an immersive event where four iconic Irish paintings from the National Gallery come to life through the lens of food and drink.
Step into these artworks as we explore their stories across different centuries, social classes, and hospitality customs. Seat at four distinct table settings and sample food and drinks inspired by the artwork and made with modern Irish artisan produce. Journey with us from a cosy cabin in remote Connemara to a gentleman’s club in the Dublin mountains, the bustling Bailey on Duke Street, and the chaos of Dublin’s notorious Donnybrook Fair. An unforgettable event where culture and food will be linked through Irish art.
About Art Plate
Art Plate is a new collaboration that highlights the intersection between Irish food and drink culture and art.
It aims to develop tours, events and educational activities to enhance our understanding and experience of Irish food culture by linking art to history and modern artisan producers. Santina Kennedy and Blanca Valencia are experienced event curators collaborating with artisan producers that have decades of experience in the food industry. They both have an MA in Gastronomy and Food Studies from TU Dublin and have an interest in the visual arts and storytelling.
Art Plate has been a guest at Taste of Dublin and Beyond the Pale food theaters where they presented some of the pairings they have developed for artwork.
They have been working with the National Gallery of Art on several projects:
● Creating a food and drink tour that was launched in August 2024 and will be part of the tours offered by the gallery. The next public tour is scheduled for October 12th. This tour will additionally be used by the Education Department for children’s visit and by the Friends of the National Gallery.
● Developing an online food and drink tour that will be part of the Through a Lens online tours.
● Curating four gastronomic events that will highlight the artwork by pairing it with Ireland’s artisan producers in the autumn.
